Today we took a lot of fun funky materials and added the details to our puppets. Items in the bucket included buttons, sequins, pipe cleaners, felt, foam, pom moms, crayons, yarn, ribbon and more. No rules the students could create their puppet how they saw fit.

Today we started our puppets. We painted the "Clothes" or "House" that our puppet will pop out of. We also painted the stick that we are going to use to pop up our puppet. The children really enjoyed mixing paint and creating designs and patterns with their paint brushes. We talked about proper paint etiquette when using tempera paint. How it differs from watercolor paint.
Kindergarten and 1st grade created snowmen using perspective and pattern. Some of the scarves were absolutely amazing!
4th-6th grade created snowmen with oil pastels. The students did a fabulous job with these. They really enjoyed learning how to make their snowman look realistic. We talked about how to blend oil pastels, how our lines show shape and motion, as well as shadows and where the direction of the "Light" is coming from. Great learning project. At the end of the class they had the opportunity to personalize their drawings.
The book fair is coming up in a couple weeks and we were asked to create some amazing art. K-1st grade used white crayons on white paper to create invisible monsters. We then added one color of watercolor paint to find them. 2ns-3rd grade used colored paper and various objects stamped in white paint to create their monsters. 4th-6th grade Glued "eyes" on their black piece of paper and then using oil pastels created an amazing monster. A lot of the art that we create does not use erasers, or ways to undo mistakes. I think mistakes are a great way to extend our creativity and to find a way to make it work and think outside of the box. |
